Grant Verlaine

*props his feet up on the desk and runs his hand through his messy hair* Okay, you're going to have to answer a couple questions before you can go claim your bunk. I'm Miroslav by the way. *pulls a pencil from behind his ear and glances down at the form* I told you my name, now you tell me yours. *give you a look* Real name, please:

*leans forward, crouching his shoulders over and clasping his hands together in what seems to be a nervous habit**isn't nervous by any means, just likes to be inside his own space**forces a small smile on his face* How can I be sure that that's your real name, Miroslav? *takes a lighthearted tone, although one that could be deemed snobbish* My name's Grant Turner Verlaine. That's l-a-i-n-e, just so you don't get that wrong. *trying to be helpful* If you've met my sister, or have to see her later, it's the same. She probably won't sit still long enough to spell it for you. *with a tone of disapproval**doesn't yet know how the interview process works, so again, is only trying to be helpful*

**writes it down* Right, if you say so. *glances back up* Got a nickname to go with that? If so, how'd you get it? *has his pencil poised over the paper, ready to write it down* :

*shakes his head head slowly* No nickname. I'm new to this whole "newsie" thing, remember? Otherwise I wouldn't be sitting here, being interviewed by you. *thinking of that, rocks a little in the chair* Rather uncomfortable spot, by the way. *nods off to the right* This one leg is shorter than the other. At least it feels that way. *shrugs a slim shoulder and returns his attention to the questions being asked*

*smirks* I suppose you have a personality. *mutters* I hope. *smirks at you* Mind sharing it with me? Important things, like if people are going to want to kill you before your first week here is over. That's always good to know. *looks at you with an inquiring look*:

*twiddles his thumbs a bit, eyeing Miro suspiciously* I didn't think it was that bad of an environment over here. I thought it was at least decent. *can't imagine people that rough**however, does realize Miro is merely joking**settles back into his chair, leaving his hands woven together* I'm...not very good at this sort of thing. I guess you could say that I'm calm. *suddenly thinks of something* Calm and impatient. I have no patience for people who waste my time, you know? There are better things to be doing. Like finishing a book. *smiles slowly* I'm pretty reserved, or so AJ says. Except she's always saying how "shy and horribly mean" I am. Not like I can trust her to have a real opinion, she's always running around too much to really understand things going on around her...*trails off upon realizing that he's strayed from his answer* I'd like to think that I'm smart, and educated. After all, reading as many books as I have, you're bound to pick up knowledge somewhere along the way, am I right? *as if answering himself, tilts his head forward in a contented nod**although it wouldn't be guessed at this time, is actually pretty quiet around most people**doesn't mind opening up to others, just usually doesn't see if necessary**would much rather be in a comfy chair with a good book, then in a room full of boisterous people**is going to find it hard to adjust to the lodging house life*

What do you look like? *silences you with a look* No smart ass remarks, just answer the question please. See? I even said please, so be nice and don't be a smart ass *smiles*:

*raises an eyebrow* Shouldn't you usually say please? *lets loose a grin* Okay, yeah, not seriously. You'd get along well with my sister. *finally considers the question**tilts his head down to give himself a look over, before lifting his eyes back up to meet Miro's* I'm as average as they come. Dirty blonde hair, grey eyes. My sister looks like me, only more feminine and with very blonde hair. *catches himself once again, and silently frowns**can't believe how much he's mentioned about his sister, as he usually tries to pretend they're not related**for anything unusual in the way he looks, the only thing that would fall under that category would be his glasses**hasn't seen many newsboys with glasses on**and hasn't given much thought to the fact that he has dimples, for if he had would simply hate them**shifts a little under the look he's receiving from the other boy, not being used to stares*

*mutters* I thought I said -not- to be a smart ass... *rolls his eyes* Okay, how old are you? If you know your birthday, tell me that too:

**takes his turn in rolling his eyes* Of course I know my birthday, I'd like to see the idiot who doesn't. June 10th, as a matter of fact. And I'm eighteen, or so I've been led to believe all these years. *taking a stab at a joke**and failing miserably*

*glances at the paper, trying to read the next question through his scrawly writing* The next question is... *squints at the paper* How'd you get here? *nods* I'm pretty sure that's what it says. *sits back in the chair and sighs when Scotchy jumps onto his lap* Tell me your tale.:

*having leaned forward momentarily to try to decipher Miro's handwriting on his own, falls back into his former position**thinks for a moment before answering* By walking? AJ and I lived not too far from here, a few streets or so that way. *releases his hands' hold on each other for a moment to wave off to the right* Basically, I followed my sister here one day. We had a lovely little disagreement over staying or not, and finally ruled to to stay. Not fully in my approval, though. *wants it to be set straight that he doesn't yet want to live here, at least not of his free will* I let her know that if she acts up at all, I'll tell my parents where she is. Of course, it's not like they don't know already..*immediately shushes himself, realizing that Amelia could be anywhere and listening**hasn't revealed to her yet that her parents do indeed know where they are staying**instead lets her carry on her fancy that they have run away and are hiding out*

Okay, now the fun question. *smiles* Got any family? Friends? How 'bout a significant other? *winks* You know, those people who will talk to you voluntarily. *smirks* Tell me about them:

*tries hard to hide the look of surprise on his face* Have you heard nothing? I have a younger sister, Amelia Jean. Nasty sprite she is. *quirks a sly grin* But don't tell her I said that, it would be my behind. I have my parents, living and well. I've never really had any friends, I never got out enough to find worthwhile ones. Besides, people can be so dull sometimes...*shakes his head* Anyways, ask me that in a few months and I'll let you know the answer. Same goes for the significant other. No girl attached to me. *not yet at least**keeps this last thought to himself**would like to think of himself as charming, no matter how far that may be from the reality of things*

*sticks the pencil behind his ear* Anything else we should know? *shrugs* If not, I'm ready to go and get something to eat. My hunger is now in your hands. *smirks* Don't incur it's wrath, so if there is something else, make it quick:

*could go for some food right now himself**pulls up from his chair, shaking his head* Nothing that I can think of, honestly. *erms* Nice interview? *shrugs and reaches up a hand to adjust his glasses**leaves the room, making sure to leave the door open so Miro can escape to find his food*
